Tiffany Smiley Accepts Third Debate Invitation, Calls on Murray to “Stop Stalling” on Opportunities to Face Voters
Why is 30-Year Incumbent Afraid to Share the Debate Stage with Smiley?
Pasco, Wash. – Veterans advocate and U.S. Senate candidate Tiffany Smiley is announcing that she has accepted an invitation to a third moderated debate, nine days after accepting two initial debate invitations and challenging Murray to additional debates.
Today, Smiley accepted an invitation from the League of Women Voters (LWV) of Washington Education Fund and The Spokesman-Review to participate in a candidate forum aired by KSPS. This is in addition to two debates Smiley accepted an invitation to nine days ago from the Seattle City Club’s Washington State Debate Coalition (WSDC).
“I’m ready to debate Patty Murray and talk about our competing visions for Washington State,” said Smiley. “It’s time for Senator Murray to stop stalling. After thirty years in the other Washington, she should be more than capable and more than ready to defend her record on the debate stage to as wide of an audience as possible.”
Thus far, the location and dates for debates Smiley has accepted an invitation to are:
Washington State University (Friday, October 7 – Sponsored by WSDC)
Gonzaga University (Thursday, October 6 OR Thursday, October 13 – Sponsored by LWV)
Seattle University (Tuesday, October 25 – Sponsored by WSDC)
Smiley also continues to challenge Patty Murray to additional debates to give voters as many opportunities as possible to compare the records and visions of the two candidates for U.S. Senate, and is offering to help defray the costs for these additional debates. The Smiley for Washington campaign has:
Sent a letter to and will be following up with CNN to conduct a nationally televised debate in Washington State;
Sent a letter to and will be following up with ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC affiliates in the Tri-Cities area to conduct a televised debate for that region; and
Invited and will be following up with the Washington State Debate Coalition to participate in and sponsor additional debates.
Smiley may consider other debate opportunities beyond what has been accepted and proposed.
