***STATEMENT***Smiley Responds To Growing Immigration and Pandemic Crisis At The Southern Border

Updated: Aug 4, 2021

PASCO, WA – Veterans advocate and U.S. Senate candidate Tiffany Smiley (R-WA) issued the following statement in response to this morning’s Associated Press report on the growing immigration and pandemic crisis at our southern border.

Tiffany Smiley said: “The Biden Administration’s continued dithering over the ongoing crisis at our southern border should outrage every Washingtonian. This is not some distant problem on the other side of the country, it impacts every single American. For the sake of our national security and make progress in ending the pandemic, we must stop the surge of illegal immigrants and secure our border. And for the sake of these children, we must work with our international partners to resolve this humanitarian crisis.”

“The crisis at our southern border is nothing new, yet solving it could not be more important as COVID continues to impact our communities. But as desperate as this situation continues to be, Patty Murray remains silent. This is unacceptable. Working to solve these types of problems are why I am running for United States Senate, and Patty Murray’s ineptitude are why she no longer deserves the trust of the people of Washington to represent us.”

This morning, the Associated Press reported that the number of children traveling alone who were picked up at our southern border by immigration officials reached an all-time high in July, and the number of individuals who came as families reached its second-highest total on record. This marked a 25% increase in unaccompanied minors over June 2021 and an astounding 43% increase in families picked up month-over-month. Making this border surge all the more concerning is that this surge is occurring as the Biden Administration has continued to fumble the nation’s recovery from the COVID pandemic.
