Smiley: “We Have A Fentanyl Crisis Because We Have A Border Crisis”
Patty Murray Chairing Senate Hearing On “Fighting Fentanyl” To Cover Up Her Terrible Record On Border Security
Pasco, WA – Veterans advocate and U.S. Senate candidate Tiffany Smiley (R-WA) issued the following statement in response to today’s hearing on “Fighting Fentanyl” from the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education Labor & Pensions, which Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA) chairs:
“Fentanyl running rampant has led to record overdose deaths in Washington State. Yet Patty Murray chaired a Senate committee hearing today on the fentanyl crisis without once mentioning the source of the problem: the lack of security at our southern border.
“Joe Biden’s own Director of National Drug Control Policy admitted to Murray’s committee that securing our southern border and decreasing smuggling would help fight the fentanyl crisis. But Patty Murray refuses to acknowledge this because of her own record on border security. She voted to defund border security measures not once, not twice, not three times, but four times. She even had the chance to give our border agents $300 million in funding for anti-narcotic activities, but she voted against it.
“We have a fentanyl crisis because we have a border crisis. As a triage nurse, seeing fentanyl contribute to over 2,000 Washingtonians dying last year is both maddening and unacceptable. I’m running for the U.S. Senate to stop fentanyl from pouring over our southern border, stop the bleeding, and hold our federal government accountable on behalf of all Washingtonians.”
