Smiley: “Patty Murray’s Vote To Raise Taxes As We Slide Toward Recession Makes NO Sense”

Pasco, WA – Veterans advocate and U.S. Senate candidate Tiffany Smiley (R-WA) issued the following statement in response to the passage of the so-called “Inflation Reduction Act”:

“Patty Murray has never met a tax hike she didn’t like and her vote to raise taxes on Washingtonians as we slide toward recession makes NO sense. She’ll peddle the myth that this bill creates a ‘fairer tax system’ when the reality is that it will RAISE taxes on the middle class.

“Only in DC would it make sense to take more money away from families when they are already paying record prices at the grocery store and the gas pump. Bringing common sense back to DC means reigning in taxes, spending and a government-knows-best ideology that has hurt Washingtonians.”

In addition to raising taxes in the midst of a recession, the Inflation Reduction Act would:

Additionally, Patty Murray had the opportunity to reduce our sky high gas prices by allowing onshore domestic drilling; protect patients with cancer Alzheimer’s and HIV from higher drug prices; provide adequate funding to combat the opioid and fentanyl epidemic, cut taxes for WA families by striking the imported and domestic oil tax; and increase funding to combat violent crime and keep repeat offenders off our streets . . . but she voted against all of those commonsense proposals.

Tiffany Smiley concluded: “Who is Patty Murray “putting first”? Because it certainly isn’t the voters of Washington state!”
