Smiley Confirms Participation in Seattle University Debate With or Without Murray

As WSDC Says October 25 Debate to Move Forward Even If Thirty-Year Incumbent Democrat Declines to Participate, Veterans Advocate Says Debate Stalling Shows Patty Murray’s Record is a Liability

Kent, WA –In response to the Washington State Debate Coalition’s announcement earlier this week that it is “committed to its Oct. 25 debate at 7 p.m. for the U.S. Senate at Seattle University” and “if invited candidates decline to participate, the coalition will move forward and host a forum with the candidate or candidates who have accepted our invitation,” veterans advocate and U.S. Senate candidate Tiffany Smiley release the following statement:

“In their proposal last month, the Washington State Debate Coalition pledged that if one of the candidates for U.S. Senate declined a debate, then the event would move forward as a forum for the remaining participating candidate,” said Smiley. “I’m glad the Coalition has kept that promise and join them in their hope that Patty Murray will take the stage with me on October 25. No incumbent should be afraid to debate their opponent, especially after serving three decades in the Senate. But Patty Murray’s debate stalling and foot-dragging shows that her thirty-year record is a liability, not an asset to Washington voters.”
