Patty Murray Refuses Joint Editorial Board Interview with Tiffany Smiley, Continues to Dodge Debates Nearly Three Weeks After Initial Proposal
Smiley Campaign to Coward Murray: “Stop Hiding. Stop Stalling. It’s Time to Confirm Debates.”
Pasco, WA – The Smiley for Washington campaign received word yesterday from The Everett Herald that Senator Patty Murray refused to take part in a joint editorial board interview with veterans advocate and U.S. Senate candidate Tiffany Smiley scheduled for next week, and demanded a separate interview instead.
“This is just another example of coward Patty Murray saying ‘it’s my way or the highway,”said Elisa Carlson, Communications Director for the Smiley for Washington campaign. “Even the thought of being in the same room with Tiffany Smiley for a joint interview with a left-leaning editorial board that will likely endorse her is too much for her to bear. Senator Murray: Stop hiding. Stop stalling. It’s time to confirm debates with Tiffany Smiley.”
This comes as local press from Spokane to Seattle are increasing the pressure on Patty Murray to debate. From Daniel Walters, senior investigative reporter at The Pacific Northwest Inlander based in Spokane:
From KIRO in Seattle:
Thus far, the location and dates for debates Smiley has accepted an invitation to are:
Tri-Cities Region: Week of September 26 – Sponsored by the Tri-City Regional Chamber of Commerce
Washington State University: Friday, October 7 – Sponsored by the Seattle City Club’s Washington State Debate Coalition
Gonzaga University: Thursday, October 13 (Requested) – Sponsored by League of Women Voters of Washington Education Fund and The Spokesman-Review, Aired by KSPS
Seattle University: Tuesday, October 25 – Sponsored by the Seattle City Club’s Washington State Debate Coalition
The Smiley for Washington campaign has also been in continuous contact with CNN on a proposal to conduct a nationally televised debate. Smiley may consider other debate opportunities beyond what has been accepted and proposed.
