Sen. Joni Ernst Announces Support For Tiffany Smiley For Senate

PASCO, WA – The Smiley for Senate campaign today announced that it has received the support of U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-IA).

Senator Joni Ernst said: "As a combat veteran myself, I’m inspired by Tiffany's personal story and am thrilled to see strong, capable women like her stepping up and running for office. Having had the opportunity to meet Tiffany and her husband, I am impressed by who she is as a person and a candidate, and am excited to see Tiffany's name on the ballot for U.S. Senate in Washington State. I have no doubt that with the combination of her strong message and tireless work ethic, Tiffany Smiley will send a shockwave from Washington State all the way to Washington, DC this coming November."

Tiffany Smiley said: “It is an honor to receive the support of Senator Joni Ernst, the first female combat veteran ever to serve in the United States Senate. When Senator Ernst said in her first campaign that she would make Washington, DC ‘squeal,’ she wasn’t making an empty campaign promise, she has led since the day she arrived in the United States Senate. I am looking forward to working with Senator Ernst to stand up to the unresponsive and ineffective federal bureaucracy, to implement positive solutions for Washington State families.”

In 2014, Senator Joni Ernst became the first woman elected to represent Iowa in federal office, and the first female combat veteran ever to serve in the Senate. Senator Ernst was resoundingly re-elected in 2020 and she now serves as Vice Chair of the Senate Republican Conference. Prior to her time in the U.S. Senate, Senator Ernst served as the Montgomery County, Iowa auditor and later in the Iowa State Senate, where she helped pass the largest tax cut in Iowa history.
